•Overall aim: To provide students with conceptual, practical, and policy-oriented competences to evaluatesustainability challenges and solutions in rural territories, integrating environmental, social, and economicdimensions and recognising governance, trade-offs, and territorial diversity.
•Learning outcomes:
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
oDefine and use key sustainability concepts (sustainability, resilience, governance, social-ecological systems…) and apply them to rural development.
oAnalyse rural sustainability challenges and develop territorial diagnostics usingthe SDGs and SES frameworks
oAssess trade-offs and synergies between environmental protection, economicviability, and social inclusion in rural policies and projects.
oUse a set of core methods, tools, and databases to analyse and understand rural realities.
oAnalyse and understand relevant and updated literature on important topics
oProduce a case study based on a real Social Ecological System and develop a diagnosis and an evidence-based sustainability strategy, using the SES framework
